The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office hires highly motivated men and women who are committed to public service and who take pride in serving the community. Our agency places a strong emphasis on professional development, offering training and skill-building opportunities that go well beyond the basic requirements set by the State of North Carolina. Each newly hired deputy completes a comprehensive field training program lasting a minimum of 12 weeks, during which the trainee works closely with experienced personnel and is exposed to as many different divisions and operational components of the Sheriff’s Office as possible. This hands‑on experience ensures that every deputy gains a well-rounded understanding of departmental responsibilities and expectations.
Beyond initial training, many members of our staff pursue advanced, specialized instruction in a wide range of areas. These include digital forensics analysis, child sexual assault investigations, crisis intervention, and other critical fields that support the safety and well-being of Cleveland County residents. This ongoing commitment to advanced training helps our personnel stay current with evolving investigative techniques and best practices.
The Training Division consistently exceeds the standards set by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education Training and Standards Commission. By going above and beyond state mandates, the division ensures that our deputies and professional staff are thoroughly prepared to meet the needs of the community. Through rigorous instruction, continuous learning, and a dedication to excellence, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office strives to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Cleveland County.
